Feature: How to Make Bagels

By popular demand, at long last, here is the recipe! Ultimate credit must be given to Rabbi Ethan Seidel, who taught Brian the recipe, and who married Jen and Brian.

Preheat the oven to 425F. Then dissolve 2 TBSP yeast, 3 TBSP sugar, and 2 TSP salt in 2.5 cups of water. Mix well until it is completely dissolved. It can take a while! Then keep adding flour and kneading until you have a good dough like this one.

Form bagels by making little balls and then punching a hole in the middle. Then put the bagels in boiling water, only a couple of minutes on each side. They will float to the top during the boiling process.

Put the boiled bagels on a cookie sheet and massage gently with a very fine coat of oil. Dip in sesame seeds if you'd like!

Bake about 20 minutes at 425F or until golden brown. They don't need to be turned.

Voila! You have made homemade bagels. It's OK if they look a little ugly. It's the distinctive mark of homemade. Enjoy!
