Beach Bums Strike Gold
Jen and Brian got a little getaway in Florida when Brian was giving a talk in Naples.

There were a lot of new things. For example, a restaurant that had hundreds of different kinds of salt. Weird.
|
But the highlight was Venice Beach. It looks like a normal beach, right? Except that there are a lot of people digging in the ground. Hm.

When you look closer at the rock the beach is built on, you see that it is saturated with fossils.
|
The result is that, especially after a big storm, there are many ancient shells and other fossils -- particularly sharks' teeth -- to discover.
Jen and I spent a few hours and found dozens of them.

When the kids woke up after we got home, they found these tubs on the floor in the kitchen!
|
And what do you know? Each tub had dozens of cool shells and sharks' teeth to dig up!
Well, I guess that's as good as we're going to get in Pittsburgh.
